Blacktron

The comparatively huge populations and economic power of the major settled worlds means that people living in smaller settlements in harsh environments or entirely in space are marginalized and ignored, receiving little to no support from the rest of humanity. Many feel exploited by the settled worlds, whose mining missions extract what little resources are available without compensating the "locals". The Blacktron faction was originally formed to extract "taxes" from commercial shipping in exchange for safe passage through "their" space.

Over time, Blacktron naturally became a haven for outlaws and the distinction between righteous "robin-hood" style raids and outright piracy, kidnapping, and even murder became blurred. Today Blacktron exists as a loose confederacy of sometimes rival gangs, some maintaining a sense of honourable vindication while others ruthlessly exploit any opportunity to make a few Sats.
